Translating Downpay with Shopify Translate & Adapt App

Shopify's Translate & Adapt app lets you translate any text fields that appear in your storefront, including Downpay's front end labels and buttons. This guide covers how to make Downpay's fields appear in the app and how to find them for each block and embed.

Before you start


Two things need to be in place before Downpay's fields will appear in Translate & Adapt.


1. The block or embed must be enabled in your theme.


If a Downpay block or embed is not active in your theme, its fields will not appear in Translate & Adapt. Make sure the block or embed you want to translate is added and enabled in your theme editor before opening the app.


2. Every field you wish to translate must have a default value set in Downpay.


Translate & Adapt only surfaces fields that have content in them. If a field in Downpay is left empty, it will not appear in the app and cannot be translated. Open your Downpay settings and confirm every field you want to translate has a default value filled in.

Translating block fields


Downpay's Theme 2.0 block fields are found under the Templates section of Translate & Adapt.


Steps to get there:


  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Translate & Adapt


  1. In the top left, select the theme you want to translate


  1. In the top center menu, click Theme and select Templates


  1. In the left hand navigation, click Product


The blocks you might be using are

  • Product Block
  • Payment Info Block
  • Cart Deposit Button

Translating embed fields


Downpay's embeds are found under the App Embeds section of Translate & Adapt, separate from the block fields above.


The embeds you might be using are

  • Product Embed
  • Cart Subtotals
  • Cart Deposit Button


Steps to get there:


  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Translate & Adapt


  1. In the top left, select the theme you want to translate


  1. In the top center menu, click Theme and select App Embeds

Troubleshooting


A field is not showing up in Translate & Adapt.


The most common cause is that the field has been left empty in Downpay in the Shopify theme editor. Translate & Adapt only surfaces fields that have a default value set. Open your Downpay settings, fill in a default value for the missing field, and then return to the app.


If the field still does not appear after adding a default value, confirm that the block or embed containing that field is enabled and active in your theme editor.
