Orderkraft Integration Setup

Made-to-order products carry lead times that make customers hesitate to pay in full upfront, an issue that offering deposit payment options addresses. Pair Downpay with Orderkraft to show lead times based on real production status on product pages and capture the balance from the card on file based on production stage.

Overview

Orderkraft is the production engine for made-to-order Shopify merchants. While Downpay secures your initial deposits, Orderkraft manages the entire manufacturing workflow behind the scenes. The real win happens at the finish line: once production wraps up, Orderkraft automatically triggers the final payment collection in Downpay using Shopify Flow. It closes the loop between custom manufacturing and revenue, ensuring you never have to chase a balance after shipping.

Why use Orderkraft with Downpay?

Instead of seeing a generic predicted lead time, customers see a time calculated from the same production data Orderkraft manages behinds the scenes. This means that when a customer is considering a purchase using Downpay deposits, they have the most accurate possible picture of when the balance will be collected, which further builds trust and reduces hesitation.

Orderkraft and Downpay connect through Shopify Flow, so you can capture the balance when manufacturing is completed — or at another stage in production. And if any delays happen, you can also automatically adjust balance collection dates and keep customers informed. This automation reduces the operational burden of running separate systems and managing customer communication, along with the risk of accidental error.

What you need before getting started

Before connecting the two:

Downpay installed, with purchase options configured on your made-to-order products
Orderkraft installed, with those same products marked as made-to-order and a lead time set

You'll also need access to Shopify Flow, available on all Shopify plans, to connect the two apps' triggers and actions.

How Orderkraft works with Downpay

The apps don't share data directly. Each does its own job on the same order. Downpay owns the deposit and the balance: when it's due and whether it's captured or authorized automatically. Orderkraft owns production, including the manufacturing orders that go into a product, the lead time, and a fulfillment constraint that holds made-to-order items until the build is done.

Because that constraint blocks fulfillment until an item is built, and Downpay can be set to capture on fulfillment, the two sequence correctly by default. For finer control, such as collecting the balance the moment production finishes instead of waiting on the fulfillment event, connect the two through Shopify Flow.

Step-by-step setup guide

Install Orderkraft and choose a plan.
Set up your first made-to-order product, including its bill of materials and production time.
Set a production location.
Enable split shipments if made-to-order items should ship separately from in-stock items on the same order.
Show the lead time on your storefront.

Connect Orderkraft and Downpay with Shopify Flow

Pair an Orderkraft trigger with a Downpay action to time the balance collection to actual production status. For example:

Collect the balance when production finishes: trigger on Orderkraft's sales order manufacturing completed, and run Downpay's Collect remaining payment action.
Authorize the balance when production starts: trigger on Orderkraft's manufacturing order started, and run Downpay's Authorize remaining payment action.
Push out the due date when production stalls: trigger on Orderkraft's manufacturing order on hold, and run Downpay's Update order due date action.

When this setup works best

This pairing works best if you sell made-to-order or built-to-spec products with a real production process, and want the balance capture to reflect when the item is actually ready. If your inventory ships from stock with no production step, a fulfillment-based due date in Downpay alone is likely enough.
