Setting up Shopify Flows

Initial Klaviyo setup

To start with Klaviyo, you first need to navigate to their login / register page to create your new account. You can do that here. In Integrations section, make sure to connect your Shopify store and account.

There may be several more steps to complete setting up your account which you can follow within their setup guide step by step.

Obtaining API keys

After you complete your account setup, you may navigate to the Settings > Account > API Keys > Public API key and then copy it or save. We will need it for later.

Sending transactional emails

To enable transactional emails with Klaviyo, you have to contact their support team to check your email and mark it as a transactional. You can contact their support through the Support button on the upper right corner on the Homepage or using their email success@klaviyo.com.

Note that each time you want to edit your template after it is marked as transactional you will lose the "transactional" status and will have to contact them again to enable it for you.

Setting up Shopify Flows

To set up some Shopify Flows with Klaviyo, you should first install the Flow app from Shopify if you haven't already and navigate to it. Then, choose Create workflow option and start from scratch. You can choose different triggers for your use case and set conditions upon you want to trigger a Klaviyo event.

Tracking Events with Klaviyo

This is how you can connect your Klaviyo event with Shopify Flow. Create a Shopify Flow with a desired trigger. In the Klaviyo Public API Key field, paste a key that you found.

Your Event Name will matter in Klaviyo as a next step. Once your Shopify Flow runs for the first time, a metric will be saved in Klaviyo with exact name.

Creating Email Flows through Klaviyo

Klaviyo offers certain triggers and actions like Shopify Flow does so you can use their Flow for sending emails too (like transactional ones). To create your transactional email, you may navigate to the Flows section > Create Flow button. You may select a pre-made Flow templates and edit them or you can Build your own template from scratch.

Once you have created it, you can go ahead and select a metric (it will serve as a trigger). Navigate to the Metrics tab and choose a metric with the name of your Shopify Flow from the list.

Then, create your desired Flow (for example sending an email) and save it. Make sure to update the status of it as "Active" upon saving. For the email action, you will have to create a template first and then select it. Once you've edited your template, you can go ahead and save it.

Note: If you aren't receiving emails with this campaign, make sure to check your DMARC policy and connect a valid sender domain to your klaviyo account. You can do this in Settings > Domains > Sender Domains > Add domain.
