Translating Downpay purchase option line item help text

Shopify's Translate & Adapt app covers most of Downpay's storefront text, but the purchase option line item help text that appears on the cart line item ("Deposit only due at checkout" by default) is set at the Shopify platform level and does not appear in the app. To translate it, you export a CSV from Shopify's language settings, fill in your translations, and import it back.

Troubleshooting

Before you start

Two things need to be in place before you begin.

  1. Ensure you have your target language created

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages and add the language you want to translate into using the Add language button in the top right. The language must be added before Shopify will include it in the export.

  1. Confirm you have at least one active Downpay purchase option

The CSV export only includes purchase options that already exist in your store. If you have not yet set up a Downpay purchase option on a product, do that first.

Downpay purchase options use Shopify's selling plan functionality.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages.

  1. Click Export.

  1. In the popup, select Selling Plans from the content type list.

  1. Select your target language and click Export.

  1. Open the downloaded CSV in spreadsheet software such as Google Sheets, Numbers, or Excel.
  • You will see rows with type SELLING_PLAN and field name , and the line item help text you've defined for that purchase option in the Default content column.

  1. Fill in your translations in the Translated content column for each row you want to localize. Leave any row blank to keep the default English text.

  1. Save the file and return to Settings > Languages.

  1. Click Import, select your edited CSV, and confirm the upload.

Once the import completes, when the language is published and applied to the appropriate markets, customers viewing your store in the translated language will see the updated text on the cart line item and at checkout.

Troubleshooting

The selling plan rows are not in the exported CSV.

This means no selling plans exist in your store yet. Set up a Downpay purchase option on at least one product, then repeat the export.

The translated text is not appearing on the cart.

Confirm the customer's browser or store language matches the language you translated into. Also check that the import completed without errors. Shopify will flag formatting issues in the CSV on upload.

Other Downpay fields need translation.

Fields like the deposit button label and payment info block text are translated through the Translate & Adapt app directly. See Translating Downpay with Shopify Translate & Adapt App for those steps.
