# Setup to sale: Making the most of Downpay

Welcome to Downpay! Once you've finished [the quick start guide](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/quick-start-1dtrqcp/), this article shows you how to get more out of the app: automated payment collection, customer self-service, and storefront customisation.

| Designing the buying experience: see our [11 strategies for improving conversion](https://hypehound-public.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/Downloadable+Guides/Boosting+Sales+on+High-Value+Products+with+Deposits.pdf) ebook for tactics and examples from Downpay merchants.

## Automating payment collections

Downpay has a [library of triggers and actions](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/using-shopify-flow-with-downpay-u2eu3f/) for Shopify Flow that can streamline and simplify payment collection:

* [Triggers](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/using-shopify-flow-with-downpay-u2eu3f/#1-downpay-triggers) based on the result of collections or authorisations, upcoming dates, and more

* [Actions](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/using-shopify-flow-with-downpay-u2eu3f/#1-downpay-actions) such as collecting or authorising payments, and adding or removing products and variants from purchase options

* [Sample downloadable Flows](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/using-shopify-flow-with-downpay-u2eu3f/) for you to use and customise

## Empowering your customers

Sometimes the best solution is to let customers take care of things themselves:

* Follow Downpay's [best practices guidelines](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/ve6wnf/) for offering a high trust deposit experience on Shopify

* Enable the [customer order portal](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/customer-order-management-w9aqaa/#1-setting-up-the-order-management-customer-portal) so customers can update their payment method

* Add a [Pay now button](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/modify-date-and-content-display-about-deposits-on-your-theme-13dgsid/#2-order-confirmation) to the order confirmation email

* Optional: allow customers to [cancel orders](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/customer-order-management-w9aqaa/#1-enabling-customer-cancellations) through the portal

* Optional: customise the boilerplate [payment terms and cancellation policy](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/edit-the-customer-cancellation-policy-1837wmx/)

## Customising the cart page

Downpay can display subtotals on the cart page so customers can see what they pay now and what they pay later:

* Enable the [cart embed](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/downpay-theme-settings-iumzy0/#2-navigate-to-cart-settings) in your theme

* Adjust [formatting, placement, and appearance](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/downpay-theme-settings-iumzy0/#1-cart-settings)

## Customising the product page

You can restyle the Downpay block on your product page to fit your brand:

* Adjust [formatting, placement, and appearance](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/downpay-theme-settings-iumzy0/#1-product-page-settings), including display currency and dates

## Editing and removing dates

Shopify requires a release date, but things aren't always that clear-cut. Often you won't know the exact date, so you enter a best estimate.

On a current Downpay plan, you can use [due on fulfillment](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/understanding-balance-due-dates-in-downpay-xntch6/) instead of a fixed date.

On a legacy plan, you'll need to give Downpay a due date, then change what customers see on your storefront.

In both cases, you can edit your theme content to control exactly what appears. Here is every place the date (or the "due on fulfillment" wording) shows up, and how to edit or remove it:

* Edit or remove it on the [product page](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/modify-date-and-content-display-about-deposits-on-your-theme-13dgsid/#2-edit-or-remove-due-date-in-downpay-block)

* Edit or remove it on the [checkout and order pages](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/modify-date-and-content-display-about-deposits-on-your-theme-13dgsid/#1-checkout-order-status-page-and-customer-accounts)

* Edit or remove it in [customer emails](https://docs.downpay.app/en/article/modify-date-and-content-display-about-deposits-on-your-theme-13dgsid/#1-email-notifications)
