# Adding Downpay deposits to a Hydrogen storefront

# Adding Downpay deposits on a headless (Hydrogen) storefront

Downpay works on headless storefronts, including Shopify Hydrogen — even though there's no theme to install an app block into.

## How it works

On a headless store, a Downpay deposit is exposed through the **Storefront API** as a **selling plan**. Your storefront reads that plan and applies it to the cart with a `sellingPlanId`. Order creation, and payment terms still run on Downpay's backend exactly as they do on a themed store — only the storefront's cart UI is custom.

## What you'll need

* The **Headless** sales channel installed, with Storefront API tokens.
* **Downpay** installed, with a deposit plan on at least one product.
* A developer to add a small amount of code to your storefront's cart.

## How to add it

We maintain a working Hydrogen reference storefront with a step-by-step guide and the exact code — a "Pay a deposit" cart button plus an optional "Due later" total. The guide lives in the repo's README so it always matches the code:

Your developer can run the reference storefront locally, see it working, and copy the two files it changes into your own storefront.

## Notes

* It's all standard Storefront API, so the same approach works on any headless React storefront — Hydrogen just makes the cart wiring easy.
